When the temperature has declined and you are in the frigid winter or even just the chilly fall, one of the best moves is to pull out your electric blanket which most certainly is one of the of best ways to both stay warm, and save money at the same time. If your bed is a big and comfortable one, I would highly recommend that you get a dual control electric blanket that will keep you very comfortable during the cold winter nights. If you have not had an electric blanket on your bed before, the cost is very low and you will easily recoup the money you spend on it, in the savings on your heating bill, so you really have nothing to lose.
If you have a king size electric blanket, you will not need to heat the entire house just to keep warm at night. This makes a lot more sense to save money than heating up all the rooms during the evening. Why would you want to throw away a few dollars each day to heat your entire home at night, when it would only cost you pennies every night for the blanket and it will still keep warm all night. When I was a kid, our house was not heated up evenly and my bedroom was always cold, until my mamma let me try her old electric blanket when they got a new one—I was sold right away! Up until that period, I had some extremely cold winter and frigid nights.
With the electric blankets that there are being made with the technology today, they are all very safe as they are constructed with the highest standards that were not present in years past, so there is no need to be worried at all about the safety. Something else that is available now is some variations of the king size electric blanket such as heated warming blankets, very cozy electric throw blankets, electric warming blankets and then of course something which many find useful, the heated mattress pads.
We now use a dual control electric blanket which is a king size one that has two controls, as most queen and king will, so my wife and I each have our very own controls on the temperature setting on either side of the bed which is required as she usually keeps her side very, very warm. One feature that we have on our blanket today and was not on my first one when I was a kid, is the feature where it will shut itself off after being on for 11 or 12 hours straight. As occasionally you return home at night and see the little light on, which indicates you left it on all day, which is not very efficient, that problem is solved with this feature and I highly recommend it! One additional thing you can have is an electric warming pad which is fine for milder weather.
Now it is quite simple to use your blanket, you only place it on top of your top bed sheet. Then you can have your bedspread, comforter or anything else on top of the blanket. Often when you have poor insulation in the house as we did as kids, or it is simply very cold, putting a sheet on top of the electric blanket will keep more of the heat in, in other words you make a layer with the blanket in between two top sheets as the make a sandwich out of it so to speak.
If you still are uncertain about buying an electric blanket, here are just a few things to consider. Dual control electric blankets are perfect for cold the weather areas of the country where if you heat your house all night, you can really run up your utility bill. It will definitely be saving you money, and the cost of the blanket will come back to you within a matter of a few months as you can keep the temperature in the house down further at night. If it gets colder in the middle of the night, you simply turn the dial up and you will stay warm all night, no matter what the outdoor temperature is. Once you hop in bed each night will always be cozy and toasty warm during the night.
